Nathaniel Muhler
Architect | Inspector | Expert Witness
I founded W.i.T. Studio in 2016 with the intention of sharing my background as a designer, builder, studio instructor, and consultant with people who enjoy doing great work with technicality and imagination.
My expertise ranges from big picture thinking to detailed analysis of problems and oportunities that arize in projects from property acquisition through construction.
My Professinal Path
Landscaping
I grew up working for my father’s landscaping company, in Oakland, CA. I was mentored for many years sculpting gardens with meticulous craftsmanship and spiritual principles integrated into designs. I developed my current work ethic as a youngster.
International Service
Volunteer work projects for national parks of the Netherlands Antilles, public health service in Rural Brazil, and a formal a landscape apprenticeship in Switzerland informed my world view and commitment to service.
Enduring difficult projects and contexts affirmed my interest in helping people through design and construction.
Construction
Multiple years working for a general contractor after college gave me the mentorship I needed to master rough and finish trades, manage projects and crews, and nurture relationships throughout the industry. I consider myself a worker among workers able to collaborate with anyone to get a job done.
Knowing how things get put together is an invaluable skill that applies to every aspect of work and life.
Architecture
I have run my own firm since 2016 and completed over 100 projects. Collaboration with consultants, contractors, city agencies and most importantly, clients, yields results that often suprase my imagination. Encountering complicated situations is an opportunity to share all of my experience and talent.
The origin of my firm’s name, ‘whatever it takes’ is a nod to the humility required to address complexity with humiliy, good humor, and perseveance to be of service and add contribute beauty to the world.
“Nathaniel always had great ideas, listened to my questions and concerns, respected my financial plan, offered creative solutions, was flexible with changing situations, interfaced well with the contractor, and never failed to deliver the project.”
I spend my free time designing infrastructure systems with my son.
